about
MERRY XMAS (birthday of noted messiah, Jesus X) FROM THE HORMONES! Or should I say, "The Hormone?" TIM "NAPALM" STEGALL PLAYED AND RECORDED THIS ENTIRE TRACK! FIRST NEW HORMONES STUDIO RECORDING RELEASED SINCE 1996! I wrote the song in December 1995, as I looked out the window whilst washing dishes , saw that sunny, balmy. 80 degree Texas holiday weather, and I thought, "Y'know, Irving Berlin clearly never lived in Texas!" So, I opted to finally write a Xmas song to which I - and others (fellow Texans, punk rockers, anyone who hate what's happened to the holidays in the name of greed) - could relate. The lyrics were finally finished last month, and I recorded this whole thing in my room in Georgetown over the last few days. The drums are drum loops that I edited from the isolated drum tracks of a certain 1977 punk band who shall remain nameless. (Yes, hip hop production values on a punk record! Talk about DIY!) The fuzz bass is a tuned-down Firebird copy guitar of mine, re-EQ'ed. The sleigh bells are part of my girlfriend's Xmas decorations. And dig those crazy guitars! Anyway, enjoy The Hormones' 1st Xmas single! Merry Jingle Jangle everyone, and Jah bless us all! COMING IN 2021: The SING! EP (at fucking last!) and US release of the Legendary Junk compilation!
lyrics
Oh, it never snows in my hometown
I've never seen a chimney
Don't know how sleigh bells sound
Look at mother unwrap the plastic tree
Harvested from the forest in the attic just for this Eve
And how do you celebrate Xmas when the temperature's 80 degrees?
Fahrenheit or centigrade - it means about the same to me
There's mistletoe and fake snow everywhere
And Santa Claus in ev'ry store to hear all the lists you share
Same old shit showin' on TV
That the networks started showin' back in 1963
And how do you celebrate Xmas when the temperature's 80 degrees?
Fahrenheit or centigrade - it means about the same to me
CHORUS:
No White Xmas for you! No White Xmas for me!
It's just never been as Irving Berlin
As what the herald angels sing
GUITAR SOLO
Mom and Dad are rushing ev'rywhere
Maxing out their credit cards to show how much they care
I wish you joy and comfort and eternal peace
But why do it just two days a year and not the other 363?
And how do you celebrate Xmas when the temperature's 80 degrees?
Fahrenheit or centigrade - it means about the same to me
